You want Overrated?

A wave of nostalgia washed over while writing this as it dawned upon us that this may be the last Hillary-related post we ever do… well the last we will do for a very long time if she can’t pull off victories in Texas and Ohio tomorrow.
.
We’ve always felt the modern feminist movement was something of an intellectual and moral empty suit and Gloria Steinem’s performance over the weekend represented a flail that only re-enforced our notions of the movement and its leaders.

Feminist icon, Steinem was campaigning in Austin, Texas on behalf of Hillary Clinton and the article here from the New York Observer documents that the crowd of 200 was nearly all-female. As if this point needed to be made. What man in his right mind would go to one of these things? Attending a breast cancer walk-a-thon with the primary objective of obtaining digits from the opposite sex is pragmatic if ethically challenged…. Attending one of these nag-fests, though, is to invite the hanging party.

In the interview with the Observer, its apparent that the feminists’ are lashing out. Its starting to shape up that the movement’s best possible hope for gaining entrance into the ultimate good ol’ boys club is fading now at the hands of the flip-side of the same grievance coin, a black male. (Great piece here from the L.A. Times documenting this ideological split in the Democrat Party).

In this interview she seems to take a rather dim view of John McCain’s military service and particularly his imprisonment at the Hanoi Hilton for 5-1/2 years as qualifications for CinC. Again, our red meat-eating brethren were all over this but it was some of her other quotes that were just as revealing as to how out-of-the mainstream people like Steinem are.

In her interview with the Observer, she commented, “from George Washington to Jack Kennedy and PT-109 we have behaved as if killing people is a qualification for ruling people.”

George Washington killing people? Really, now? Washington achieved the Presidency more by not being killed himself than any killing he or the army under his direct command did. He won the Revolutionary War by boring the British Army into resignation.

Also, Steinem appears to be the glass-is-half-empty type. In referring to those who would vote for Obama to assuage their racial guilt she says, “They acknowledge racism—not enough, but somewhat,” Steinem continued. “They would probably be less likely to acknowledge that the most likely way a pregnant woman is to die is murder from her male partner. There are six million female lives lost in the world every year simply because they are female.”
.
In bemoaning this “gynocide”, however, she overlooks the silver lining of 6 million terminated pregnancies.

According to the article, Steinem, signed a letter posted at HuffPo insisting that Obama did not have a monopoly on inspiration…. as if to say,
“not so fast, pal - you’re not the only one that can sweet talk and buffalo the masses.”
.
Actually, with their shrill, jack-booted doctrinaire ways, that is one thing they’ve never been able to do. It has seemed that any success in getting America to paint the guest room has succeeded if only to cease the brow-beating so we can get back to watching the game.

Again, from the article: “Steinem’s speech offered, Letterman-style, 10 reasons why she was supporting Hillary. Most were serious, though one of the more flippant was “We get Bill Clinton as Eleanor Roosevelt.”
.
Bill Clinton is a closeted lesbian who talks to the dead?
.
Anyway, as evidenced by the 200 people who showed up to hear her as opposed to the millions who heard what she said in the aftermath, this whole endorsement thing is highly overrated.
