74 Weeks and Counting....

There’s an a saying in sports regarding General Managers that sometimes the best trade you make is the one you don’t.

As our banner subheading suggests, we’re twisting old adages like pretzels today to look on the bright side of how Congress concluded their week. The Ponzi-scheme Global Warming Bill fell 12 votes shy of bringing it to the floor of the Senate for a vote. Story here. So instead of enacting a law that checks in at 492 pages and one which would’ve instituted 58 new federal programs while doing absolutely nothing to bring more and cheaper energy to market, we got nothing – it’s a wash and for that we are thankful. Yes, thank you, Senate for not completely hosing things up more than they already are.

74 weeks have passed since Ms. Pelosi and Mr. Reid have been running things on the Hill – a leadership they obtained partly on the promise of lowering gas prices and what have we seen?

We’ve seen dog and pony “hearings” meant, we suppose, to shame Big Oil into lowering their prices, we’ve seen bogus shell-game legislation masked as “energy policy”, we’ve seen a head-long plunge into burning food for energy as our great “energy policy” leap, we’ve seen our President go overseas to essentially beg OPEC to increase their output, we’ve seen good-time, rock’n’roll federal gas tax holiday proposals, we’ve seen other countries merrily drilling off-shore keeping their economies humming along… we’ve seen many things over the past year and a half but one thing we have not seen is one single substantive effort to lower the cost of fuel here domestically.
