If it's Wednesday, Feb. 4th...

…it must be National Letter of Intent Day.

This is a high holiday for the ultimate sports geeks and draftnik-types everywhere. This is the day, you see, when those can’t-miss prep prospects learn what a fax machine is and send notification to good ol’ State U. that they will be suitin' up at the alma mater for at least 3 years of football.

For many, this day is more popular than Labor Day weekend, Jan. 1st or whenever it is that they play the BCS championship game, because much like spring training is for baseball, NLoI Day is a day filled with promise and potential. NLoI Day is the day when college football fanatics, the most unreasonable types in the American sports scene, scour the internets to see which 4 and 5-star recruits have committed to their school and which will fulfill the completely unrealistic expectations of winning 2 or 3 BCS championships over the next 5 years… or else fire the coach!

So let’s dive-in, shall we?

Here is the list of the schools with the top recruiting class of 2009 according to Rivals.com:

1. Alabama
2. LSU
3. USC
4. Ohio State
5. Texas
6. Florida State
7. Michigan
8. North Carolina
9. Georgia
10. Florida

Other notables: 16 – UCLA, 19 - Stanford (!), 20 – Notre Dame

Stanford has not been that high in years and speaks to the turnaround happening up at The Farm under Coach Jim Harbaugh and we have not seen Notre Dame this low in quite a long time which could also speak to the turnaround happening in South Bend under Charlie Weis.

The complete rundown of the day’s activities can be found at Rivals link above.
