From the Dept. of Inevitability

To get the economy back on track, will President Barack Obama have to break his pledge not to raise taxes on 95 percent of Americans? In a “This Week” exclusive, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner told me, "We’re going to have to do what’s necessary.”

Geithner was clear that he believes a key component of economic recovery is deficit reduction. When I gave him several opportunities to rule out a middle class tax hike, he wouldn’t do it.

“We have to bring these deficits down very dramatically,” Geithner told me. “And that’s going to require some very hard choices.”

Damn near insistent upon it from the sound of things.

So, it would appear that the Obama line of $250,000 as the cut-off line for new taxes will take a dramatic nose dive.

Unfortunately, the first thing that popped into our mind after reading the exchange above between the two-time tax cheat and George Stephanopoulos was not that we were going to be shelling out more money but the little troll below that showed up at the April 15th tea party outside the main San Diego post office who was berating all us racist ingrates for protesting our porkulus tax refund. All $13/week of it.

We’d like an opportunity to re-engage.

P.S. We know it was a decision based upon simplicity and clarity but the link is titled, "Geithner Won't Rule Out New Taxes for Middle Class", forgetting the fact that only Congress can levy taxes.
