Yes. That was Jamie Foxx right out of the gate. Foxx is starring in Quentin Tarantino’s over-the-top violent neo-Spaghetti Western, Django Unchained.

If you’ve been reading this blog for any length of time, some of those folks might look familiar from also appearing in the creepiest and most sycophantic campaign video of all-time, the “I Pledge” video. This is not merely coincidental.

They don't want "active participants", they want zombies

The Obama campaign has launched its “For All” campaign, encouraging supporters to take pictures of themselves with their hands on their hearts and a note explaining why they support President Obama.

Actress Jessica Alba uses the Pledge of Allegiance as an example of the campaign in an email to supporters.

“Growing up, my classmates and I started every day with a ritual: We’d stand up, put our right hand over our hearts, and say the Pledge of Allegiance,” explains Alba. “To me, that gesture was a promise. A promise to be involved and engaged in this country’s future. A promise to work for liberty and justice — and for affordable education, health care, and equality — for all.”

Alba joins Hollywood actresses Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson by photographing herself with her hand on her heart pledging to vote for Obama.

Taking a pledge to vote (ostensibly for Obama) is not cool, it’s not cute and it’s not hip. It’s undemocratic but we suppose that’s the point. It’s downright creepy but totally in keeping with a voting bloc that went completely nuts when three people were water-boarded during the Bush administration but support a President who granted himself the power to indefinitely detain U.S. citizens without cause and who casually dials-up drone strikes because he can’t be bothered with the messy business of intelligence-gathering.


It’s also the same voting bloc that sees no contradiction in supporting a civilian trial for Club Gitmo detainees but doesn’t bat an eye when the President and Attorney General tells us not to worry because people like Khalid Sheik Mohammed would never see the light of day even if he were convicted.


This is all not the result of “active participation”. It’s all good, you see, because it’s our guy.

Poor pathetic Nancy Pelosi bemoaning the lack of civility regarding the current political debates and fearing it could lead to violence.

An uncharacteristically emotional Nancy Pelosi is warning Republicans — and other groups getting whipped up over the health care debate — not to incite unstable supporters who might repeat acts of violence that struck San Francisco in the 1970s.

A top Pelosi aide later confirmed reporters' suggestions that her statement — a reference to the City Hall murder of gay rights activist Harvey Milk and Mayor George Moscone in November 1978 — an earth-shattering experience for Bay Area Democrats like the speaker.

Pelosi stumbled when asked about Rep. Joe Wilson's "You lie!" outburst and its impact on civility in the House, momentarily overcome by emotion.

“I think we all have to take responsibilities for our actions and our words.”

“Some of the rhetoric is frightening.”

“I think they have to take responsibility for any incitement they may cause.”

We’re curious if any of this rhetoric entails calling the townhall protesters “un-American"? Would the Speaker like to take responsibility for that? And just wondering if any of this frightening rhetoric falls along the lines of one of her fellow elected representatives likening the same to the KKK.

Because if it is, then it’s a day late and a dollar short… and, we might add, directed the wrong way as it didn’t prevent an African-American from getting the crap beat out of him by union thugs at a townhall meeting (Kenneth Gladney is the only person thus far that can legitimately make the KKK charge).

And it hasn’t prevented the reckless and ad hominem charges of racism from everybody from cable talking heads to dottering former Presidents being directed at anyone who has had the temerity to exercise their 1st amendment rights in vocally opposing the President's ruinous proposals.

The whole “can’t we all just get along” plea is so bald-faced hypocritical it defies credulity.

It’s like Pelosi spent the last 3 or so months cut off from all the news of the world in the international space station and splashed down yesterday only to just discover all this mean and nasty stuff being cast about and then wimper (boo-hoo!) that we all need to take responsibility for what we say.

After you, madam.

San Diego: the city that almost gets it right

Four city employees were awarded $34,300 in damages after a jury found that they were sexually harassed after being ordered to participate in an event where they were exposed to sexually charged conduct, simulated sex acts and lewd comments for which they suffered stress-related problems such as headaches and anxiety.

$34,000…? That’s it? Is that some kind of joke?

The four city employees happen to be San Diego city (male) firemen and the event in question happened to be the 2007 Gay Pride parade.

Oh…

Oh, exactly. Don’t get your panties in a wad. They weren’t even touched.
