"One of the great strengths of the United States," the President said, "is ... we have a very large Christian population -- we do not consider ourselves a Christian nation or a Jewish nation or a Muslim nation. We consider ourselves a nation of citizens who are bound by ideals and a set of values."
First of all, whether we are a Christian nation or not is really of no concern to us… at least for purposes of this discussion. We figure living up to the standards set by that religion’s namesake in the here and now ought to be more subject-worthy.
But what in the hell is the President doing even opining on the subject? What’s the relevance… what’s the context?
What’s that, you say…? He said this overseas – in Turkey – a very much decidedly Muslim nation.
Oh… well, never mind, then.
