...except when it doesn't

Tucked away neatly in a wire piece on Congess asking for more money to fund the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan was this:

Obey said $80 million to close the U.S. prison in Guantanamo, Cuba, would not be included in the bill because no details were provided by the administration on how that move would be carried out.

Bottom line: despite the rhetoric, the reality of Club Gitmo, your tropical retreat from the everyday stress of Jihad, does not appear to be going away anytime soon.

As I sit by my hero in the photo, I recall my boyhood hero: a "committee of sappy women" petition the governor to pardon the murderous Injun Joe. "If he had been Satan himself,” Twain snorts, “there would have been plenty of weaklings ready to scribble their names to a pardon petition, and drip a tear on it from their permanently impaired and leaky waterworks." (paraphrased from a site, but understood the jist of it as a youngster)
