We've tried to explain this concept or have used it in attempt to illustrate the folly of a particular government program previously on this blog but since we're honoring the life and revealed truth of Milton Friedman on the 100 anniversary week of his birthday, we figured we'd let him describe it.

Unfortunately, caring teachers will spend their own money on school supplies due to their commitment to excellence. This is because they are being robbed of the taxpayer's funds to do their job. This is a great injustice and as we all know a deeper problem with the union. I wish Milton hadn't ended up with such a statement that could be used as a straw man argument against a greater point.
But this was a great video, and sorry I managed to be critical.
