Not so random thought of the day

From James Taranto of the Wall Street Journal:

Here was our favorite line from Mitt Romney's convention speech: "President Obama promised to begin to slow the rise of the oceans and to heal the planet. My promise is to help you and your family."

We liked it even better when we saw that the New York Times's Nicholas Kristof had tweeted: "Seriously, Romney's speech esp troubled me by mocking rising seas/climate change. The dismissiveness was appalling."

Apalling? At least it wasn't racist.

We don't suppose it occurred to Kristoff, who occupies that statist mind-hive of the New York Times, that Romney was not so much dismissive of global warming as he was dismissive of and chiding Obama's elevated sense of self-importance.

It was a great line delivered with perfect comedic timing and which also served to remind us of the broader point that no one, repeat, no one in a democracy is above mockery, especially those that confer upon themselves other-worldly and messianic powers.

To be fair Global Warming is a religion and in that light their reaction is understandable. What is a mockery is the notion that the Global Warming religion is scientific in any way. It is a belief, and a false one.

In under 1 second its "science" can be debunked, depending upon you internet speed: http://blog.doodooecon.com/2012/03/university-of-california-berkeley-lies.html (see graphic)

Dean, that was my favorite line as well. Your explanation of why covers the reasons beautifully. Likewise, even though I found Clint Eastwood's performance mildly embarrassing, the excessive reaction appeared to it showed that Obama's sanctimony was punctured.

Doo Doo, gotta look it up, I've been debunking this for more years than this blog. Thanks for the ammo.

B-Daddy, Stop it with the Eastwood embarrassing BS. He pulled off a very good sketch. As previously commented, this is Bob Newhart bit. Very well done. Just like we want our grandpa to tell it straight.

I always found Newhart's humor kind of embarrassing too. Maybe I'm not normal in that regard.

The top selling album in 1960 was Bob Newhart, not Elvis, not Frank, not even Sound of Music.
