"If it saves just one life, then it was all worth it."

The old adage of “bad examples make for bad policy” has always been a refrain of ours but one which we would never suggest to Sgt. Anita Shaw of the United States Army who was serving this country in Iraq when she lost her teenage son, Jamiel when he was gunned down by an illegal immigrant in L.A. in March of this year.

But come to think of it, why would deportation be bad policy? For all the hand-wringing of an economic collapse due to mass deportations and whining over breaking up the family units of hard-working, family-oriented illegal aliens because of the same, would it be too much to ask that we at least kick-out the bad actors? Check out Jamiel’s Law, here.

Is it too much to ask our elected leaders to grow a spine and possibly (gasp) ruffle some Mexican and central American feathers by rightly making these people their problem instead of ours? Is it too much to expect our elected leaders to actually uphold the law of the land to which they have sworn an oath? Don’t hold your breath.

In fact, expect just the opposite. The same inane “sanctuary city” policies that cost Jamiel his life are being pursued in a much splashier fashion by San Fran mayor, Gavin Newsome who has embarked on an $83,000 tax-payer funded city-wide program that seeks to welcome illegals with open arms.

Boy Blunder, you may recall, is the same person who decided on his own 4 years ago to abrogate Prop. 22 which banned same-sex marriages here in California by ordering the city clerk’s office to issue same-sex marriage licenses. Newsome was widely criticized by fellow Democrats for giving George Bush a stick to beat John Kerry about the head regarding this issue. Nice work, Gav. We’re hoping this stunt has a similar effect in further galvanizing all us racists and nativists.

...and makes us feel we've been targeting the wrong people with all this deportation talk.

I'd be happy with simply treating it as a felony, myself.

What's the usual response if a foreign national commits a felony in the USA?

I'm not sure what the usual response is but I'm feeling a little whacky this evening: How about prosecuting and incarcerating him (if guilty), and THEN kick him back to the country of his origin?

Only if we downgrade the jails.

Ooh! Idea! Model new jails off of US Navy enlisted, ship-board rooms.

It's not fun, but if it's good enough for the Navy....

First off... One of the saddest stories I have ever heard. Stanford-bound kid from a hard-luck neighborhood with mom serving in war zone is taken out by pea-brained nothings. Extremely depressing.

To the larger problem at hand... This situation brings up the question of a secure border twice over. Once for not letting people in illegally in the first place. And second because gangs now use the "incarcerate in U.S. prisons, deport to native country to raise havoc, return to America even stronger and more diabolical" merry-go-round system to their advantage.

Example? MS-13. They've not only caused havoc and grief here, but are brutalizing El Salvador from what they've learned in American prisons, and then return to the U.S. via...

the porous U.S. border!

Oooh! Idea!

Imprison them, then deliver them to the cops with a FULL disclosure of what they were accused of, what they were convicted of and what they were suspected of. Fingerprints, if possible, and tell them WHO they were grouped up with.

Then, it's on their guys.

Foxie, do I detect a bit a snark, there?

Foxfier said...

Not really-- a nice dose of disgust, since it's not like we sneak the guys we deport across the border.

While listening to KNX out of L.A. this morning, I caught an interview with the Mayor Villaragosa in which he hung up the phone on the KNX interviewer when the questions got too tough for him.

I went to the KNX website, hoping they had already posted the interview. They haven't, but here's an interesting interview on the same topic: http://www.knx1070.com/topic/play_window.php?audioType=Episode&audioId=1861693
