The mythical Office of the President-elect is using YouTube to pimp the stimulus plan (The Great Stumble Sideways). Clip can be found here.
Pretty standard fare for reasons to support the plan – you’ve heard most of them all before: “job creation”, “improving the infrastructure”, “green technology”, our runner-up favorite: “a down payment on the future” and our current favorite and a new one in light of a plan that will resemble wacky drive-time FM DJ guy throwing money out of a helicopter but to the tune of $1 trillion dollars all across America: A "War on Waste”. But, of course.
And did we forget federal inspectors coming to your home to give it the once over and then you being like all amazed and stuff when they show you all the ways you could save energy in your home. Windows? Get out.
Chart below (H/T: KT) demonstrates just how much pain we will all be saved with this stimulus plan by Camp Obama’s estimation. We’ll give’m credit. It’s actually quite modest and we suppose that’s part of our problem with it. $1 trillion (and we know that ultimately, it will grow beyond that) for a maximum delta of just over 1-1/2% between the unemployment rates with and without stimulus at the 3Q 2010. And then a nice gentle landing for both asymptotically approaching 5% starting the end of 2012.
Exit question: If “job creation” and thus unemployment is a function of government spending, then why hasn’t it been eliminated completely…. like, forever?
