And yet....
I'm still not sure. The book "Good to Great" talks about the hedgehog, who only has to know one thing to defeat the much more clever fox. George Bush may be that hedgehog in that he knew this: Allowing the drift of events and opinion in the Middle East to continue unchecked would inevitably bring far greater tragedy to the world than the events of 9-11. Something huge needed to be done, something that only America could do, something that would demonstrate our commitment to democracy as well as serve as a reminder that we remain the most powerful nation on earth. A confluence of events made that something a place and a war called simply "Iraq." Only time will tell if he was able to reverse the course of history. I am certain only of this, on the most important decision he had to make on his watch, George Bush got it right. We hope and pray that Barack Obama will be similarly fated.
A disaster on the domestic front but cautious reason for hope abroad. B-Daddy chimes in with his thoughts on the Bush presidency, here.

Kool-Aid's got thirst on the run!
Still trying to justify war in Iraq, eh? If I'm Mr. GOP P.R. Guy, I put it to America like this:
Admittedly, going in was an unjustified screw up of monumental proportions. But the people that brought you that piece of brilliance are catching their private jet flights back to Wyoming, Texas, etc -- and a new breed of Republican that you can count on to get things right in the first place based on fact rather than fantasy is in the offing. As for the nation of Iraq... We owe it to them to clean up our mess, ("Put the horses back in the barn" as we say in the Red States) and believe we may have finally gotten our act together in that regard after 6 years and hope the incoming administration can build some momentum off our increased -- thought not set in concrete -- stabilization. We look forward to working with the new administration, yada yada yada... We'll see you again for mid-terms in two years.

I'm sure B-Daddy would appreciate these comments at his site.
Dean wondering when Mongo will ever take off his floaties.
