So… Remind us again of why these guys have never been invited to do another Super Bowl half-time?

(Correction: the original title of this post implied that U2 had never done a Super Bowl half-time performance. As faithful commenters have noted, U2 performed at half-time of the '02 Super Bowl. We must have been passed-out already or too busy beating our spouses to notice. No matter. We apologize and to serve penance we will force ourselves to read the NYT Op-Ed section tomorrow prior to the big game and as a public service, link to said performance can be found here.)

… with the NFL giving us this?

This year: Tom Petty. Hey, not to knock the guy but honestly… his best stuff came out when we were still wearing John Stockton-length shorts. “Don’t do me like that, don’t do me like that….. darlin’, darlin’, darlin’ don’t do me like that….”

Convince us that neither this…. nor THAT wouldn’t kill.

… “hello, hello….....HOLA!”

Well, there ya go again...

U2, Super Bowl halftime show, 2002. New Orleans, LA.

Hey, don't get me wrong. 2002 and they haven't had them back since?? Now, that's the question.

You know, BWD, Sometimes you can't make it on your own...

6 years seems an eternity... Holy smokes... was I out of the country? What songs did they do?

Well, I can tell you that to close out the show, two of the songs were a short-version "MLK", followed quickly by the memorable 9/11 victims on the large screen while "Where the Streets Have No Name" was performed...

Prior to that, I think they played "Elevation".
