KBwD is on the Air

Its funny how regional influences can dictate radio programming. We’d never heard of these guys while growing up on the West Coast as KMET and KLOS never played them. So thank goodness for running off to Seminary and having WNEW turn us on to them.

The Who’s “Live at Leeds”, Zeppelin’s “Song Remains the Same” and “Frampton Comes Alive” all get props as the best or most noted live albums of the seventies. For our money, we’ll take “Waiting for Columbus” as the best live album of the 70s and a live Tour de Force of this group’s funky New Orleans blend of blackened southern rock and Caribbean rhythms.

This was at a time when there were trans-Atlantic love affairs going on between groups on both sides of the pond. You had the John Lennon – Harry Nillson fling, the Keith Richards/Mick Jagger – Gram Parson affair, the obvious Eric Clapton - Allman Brothers love nest and then there were these dudes who were favored over every other American act by Robert Plant and Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin (Jimmy Buffet, sadly, is said to have gotten into music because of them).

We’re rambling… Ladies and Gentlemen, Little Feat….! performing “All That You Dream”. (That's the late great Lowell George fronting on slide guitar who became yet another victim of the rock'n'roll/drug culture.)

Enjoy!

P.S. We’re almost embarrassed to play this as the version off of “Waiting for Columbus” is sonically and artistically so far beyond what is provided here.

Dean,
Thanks. Those guys are great. Their hit that got me going was "Feets Don't Fail Me Know." I first heard it at the other seminary. Of course the reference to Baltimore, just up the road, made that song all the sweeter.

B-Daddy, I heard you speak of these guys when you were at the other but as the post reflected, I didn't get the full dosage until later. "Waiting..." is simply an amazing album... digitally remastered, by the way.

Damn it, BwD. When will you learn?

You want to do something right, you send in the Canadians...

Or for something more contemporary and from the Sacred Feminine side of the equation:

Mongo,
Glad to see you recommending a band with a libertarian streak to their lyrics. Who's next, Oingo-Boingo?

Get with it, B-Daddy. It's just "Boingo" now.
