Your home no longer your castle Pt. II

Now that the Obama administration has nationalized the student loan industry, pesky matters like the 4th amendment become a little easier to deal with when it comes to collections.

Read Reason's account here.

Again, not a local SWAT team as was initially reported in some accounts but the Office of the Inspector General for the Department of Education. Feel better?

You would be totally forgiven if the term "police state" accidentally stumbled into your concious being after seeing the video above.

Matt Welch adds:

if this story isn't a wake-up call about the militarization of police and criminalization of everything, then I'm afraid the patient is even deader than the Fourth Amendment.

And this comes on the heels of the Indiana State Supreme Court ruling that the police can enter your home for pretty much any damn reason they wish and you are not to prevent them from doing so.

Two very disturbing instances on the 4th amendment front.

Ever read the agreements you sign if you register a cat in big cities, like Tacoma and Seattle?

The Animal Control folks, or anyone they authorize, can enter your house at any time, without reason, if you keep an animal there. (Tacoma's is the easiest to find.)

And folks wonder why there's such a glut of "adoptable" animals.

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll see any legal changes until one of these overzealous SWAT Teams kick down the door of a well-armed citizen who repels the unwarranted assault (and then gets killed by same SWAT Team for defending himself in his home).

Like the Marine vet in AZ who didn't even get a chance to fire on the armed strangers attacking his home?
