Another People Magazine edition of Beers with Demo...

... where we keep an eye on critical pop culture developments in this great country of ours.

This weekend, the USO presented, "VH1 Divas Salute the Troops" at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station here in San Diego. The show featured Katy Perry, Sugarland, Nicki Minaj, Keri Hilson and Grace Potter and The Nocturnals, among others.

We were then informed that the show was to be hosted by someone named Nancy Griffin whose only claim to fame as far as we can recall is that she was at one time tight with Levi Johnston, the father of Bristol Palin's child and all-around attention whore.

Here's what the San Diego Union-Tribune had to say regarding USO-stalwart, Bob Hope and the host of the show:

Chances are also good Hope would have found a kindred (albeit far more edgy) spirit in satirist Kathy Griffin, who hosts the “Divas” extravaganza, which airs at 9 p.m. Sunday on VH1.

A rather odd choice to be hosting this event, thought we, but what the heck, let's see what happens.

We know context is everything but did she really just equate the booing she was getting from the audience with suffering in war?

Sorry. Can't believe that the man who personified class and dignity while performing for the troops both here and abroad for the USO for decades would have anything remotely in common with someone who resorts to lame and unfunny personal attacks and then claims some sort of martyrdom when the audience responds in kind.

This concludes this People Magazine edition of Beers with Demo.

i'd say the definition and usage of the term "diva" has been significantly eroded over these past 15 years or so.
