It was one year ago this week that San Diego was under siege from the Witch Creek and Harris fires, respectively.
It was a bizarre week full of angst, terror and uncertainty, but also of caring, compassion and hope.
A little retrospective is in order this evening as we look back on some generosity of spirit and some some-what misguided but fun-filled BwD relief efforts here and here.

My folks had to evacuate and came to live with us for a week. I got a call from my mom last night to say "thanks." Their house was spared, but their landscape was obliterated. It was a very scary time.
That was an unbelievable scene last year.
This is also the 5 year anniversary of the Cedar Fire -- the one that I drove straight through on I-8 with towering flames on the sides of the freeway coming back from the desert. I was messing around the other night and came across this completely surreal scene...
